Vocal Tract Articulatory Synthesizer

Introduction

XVocal is the UNIX version of Dr. Shinji Maeda's Vocal Tract Articulatory Synthesizer, VTCALCS (originally developed for the PC platform). In 1995, Edmond Chi Hin Chui of our laboratory ported the PC version to UNIX. With the permission by Dr. Maeda, XVocal is now freely available if used for research purposes only. Please check out the user manual for a detailed instruction on how to use the program.

Download Procedures

  1. Create/Change to your working directory for XVocal
  2. Create the subdirectories AREA and SIG
  3. Ftp to ftp.icsl.ucla.edu
  4. Login as anonymous
  5. Enter your e-mail address as password
  6. Change directory to pub/XVocal
  7. Download the following files to your directory:
    xvocal (binary file)
    pb1_spec.dat (ASCII file)
    rad_imp.dat (ASCII file)
  8. Change to the AREA subdirectory and copy all the .are data files for area functions.
  9. Change to the SIG subdirectory and copy the following Matlab program files:
    auwrite.m
    convert.m
    play.m
