Procedure for Assigning Cubicle Space to Graduate Students
Policy for Assigning Cubicle Space to Graduate Students
In an effort to make sure we can accommodate the space needs of our students and faculty fairly and equitably, the department follows the procedure below in assigning cubicle spaces:
- Only graduate students performing research under the supervision of a faculty advisor are eligible for assignment of cubicle spaces.
- The priority in assigning cubicle spaces is by seniority: advanced PhD students have higher priority than first-year PhD students who have higher priority than MS students.
- Faculty members with laboratory spaces assigned to them need to fill their laboratory space with their students before applying for departmental cubicle space.
- Important. Cubicles are assigned to students and not to faculty members. A faculty member does not have the right to keep the cubicle space after a student graduates. Vacated cubicle spaces are returned to the pool of cubicles for reassignment according to the priority policy.
- Graduate students should not maintain multiple cubicle spaces in separate locations. Graduate students with multiple cubicle spaces will be asked to vacate their assigned cubicles in the department.
- Graduate students and faculty advisors are responsible for vacating the cubicle spaces upon graduation of the students.
- Graduate students that abuse their cubicle space will be asked to vacate the space.
- The time limit for using a departmental cubicle space is of 5 years for a PhD student and 2 years for an MS student. Extensions require a valid justification and departmental approval.
- Post-doctoral scholars should be seated in the faculty advisors’ laboratory spaces or apply for space in one of the post-doctoral departmental offices.
- Visiting faculty should be seated in the faculty advisors’ laboratory spaces or apply for space in one of the visiting faculty departmental offices.
- Visitors from companies that are full members of the Industry Affiliates Program are seated in the IAP office.
