How to Apply for Admission to the Graduate Program

The application may not be submitted before September 1 or after December 15 in order to be considered for acceptance for the next school year. Note that the UCLA Electrical Engineering Department accepts applications for the Fall Quarter only.

Applications are available online ONLY. Paper copies are NOT AVAILABLE.

The application process for acceptance to the UCLA Electrical Engineering graduate program is in two parts.

  • The first part is to electronically submit the online application, which includes your academic history and the application fee (also paid electronically). Note that the application fee is US $70 for U.S. citizens and permanent residents. The application fee is US $90 for international students .

The information you present to the UCLA Graduate Division through this application process is then made available to the Electrical Engineering Department.

The online application comes with complete instructions and further information.

This online application includes all additional forms required by the Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science and the Department of Electrical Engineering, with the exception of the Graduate Record Examination scores (which must be supplied to the Department by the Educational Testing Service), and your transcripts, which you send directly to the EE Department.

  • The second part of the application process requires you to submit, in hardcopy, transcripts from all academic institutions you attended as an undergraduate (and as a graduate student, if applicable) directly to the UCLA Electrical Engineering Department, to the following address:

    Electrical Engineering Department
    Office of Student Affairs
    57-127 Engineering IV Building
    Box 951594
    University of California, Los Angeles
    Los Angeles, CA 90095-1594
    U.S.A.

    Attention: Admissions Coordinator

You are also required to make arrangements to have your GRE scores forwarded to the Department. Note that international students will need to also arrange for their TOEFL/IELTS scores to be sent to the Department.

All other required documents are to be filed electronically together with the application for admission.

Finally, please do not email the department to verify if materials have been received. The Office of Student Affairs will email you if your application is incomplete or if any documents are missing.

After Submitting Your Application: About the "Application Status" Option

The online application form has many special features in addition to the basic material required. One of these features is called "Application Status", which helps the applicant check to see if all required documentation has been received by his/her major program.

However, this is not an option open for applicants to the EE Department graduate programs.

Due to the large volume of applications that the department receives, the department cannot respond to application status inquiries via email, fax, phone, or regular mail, and the department will not update the online "Application in Progress" page at the Graduate Division's website. The department apologizes in advance for any inconvenience this may cause you.
