Admissions Information for Undergraduate Students

Freshman applicants to the Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science (HSSEAS) must first meet the minimum eligibility requirements for the University of California including the subject and scholarship requirements. Please consult the official information about the UC Eligibility Requirements, access a complete UC application form, and receive information about fees and deadlines.

Because admission to HSSEAS is competitive, merely meeting the minimum eligibility requirements of the University of California is rarely sufficient for admission to an engineering major. Applicants should possess excellent academic records, and must submit official test results for the SAT I, or ACT, and two SAT II subject tests. Tests should be taken no later than December.

In addition to the SAT Reasoning Tests (formerly SAT I), the University of California, Los Angeles, requires applicants to take two SAT Subject Tests in two different subject areas, for example history and science, or literature and language other than English. Tests should be taken no later than December. The University does not accept the SAT Math Level IC examination in fulfillment of one of the SAT Subject Tests.

Applicants to the Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science are strongly encouraged to take the SAT Math IIC and a science test (Physics, Chemistry, or Biology) that is closely related to the student's intended major.

Other academic accomplishments and personal achievements are considered in the admissions decisions. For a detailed description of how UCLA considers these other factors in its review process, please visit the page on Freshman Selection.

Applications must be filed during the month of November for enrollment the following September. The UCLA Admissions Office and the UCLA Registrar Office maintain excellent websites for prospective students that include admission information, the UCLA General Catalog, graduation statistics, tours, and other information. Important information for international students is also available at the site as well. Also, for detailed and up-to-the-minute information specific to undergraduates in Engineering please visit the site of the HSSEAS Office of Academic and Student Affairs.

For questions about HSSEAS undergraduate admissions policies contact the admissions staff via Email. Please note in your email whether you would be applying as a freshman or a transfer.
