Distinguished Professor Yahya Rahmat-Samii’s co-authored paper entitled, “Enhancing Communications for Future Mars Rovers”, appeared on the cover page of the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society Magazine, Vol. 59, pp. 50-61, August 2017. Co-authors were Dr. J. Kovitz (GTRI with PhD from UCLA), J. P. Santos (UCLA), Dr. N. F. Chamberlain (JPL) and Dr. R. E. Hodges (JPL with PhD from UCLA). Through fruitful collaborations with JPL engineers, UCLA team members were able to prototype a novel circularly polarized array with enhanced dual band frequency features at X-band allowing a potential Direct-to-Earth (DTE) link from future Mars Rovers with NASA’s Deep Space Network (DSN). The logo of the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society shown in the bottom of the cover page is designed by Prof. Rahmat-Samii many years ago and was adopted as the society logo which appears on all of the publications and conference flyers of the society.
