Abstract: One might wonder how a person who spent most of his career in communications could be happy being a member of CMRR, a research center concerned with storage systems. Come to the talk and find out.

Biography: Jack Keil Wolf received the B.S.E.E. degree from the University of Pennsylvania and the M.S.E., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees from Princeton University. He is currently the Stephen O. Rice Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and a member of the Center for Magnetic Recording Research at the University of California, San Diego. He is also a Vice President, Technology (part time) at Qualcomm, Inc. He has received several IEEE awards including: the E. H. Armstrong Award, the Koji Kobayashi Award, the Claude E. Shannon Medal, the Aaron D. Wyner Award, and the Richard W. Hamming Medal. He is a member of the US National Academy of Engineering, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the National Academy of Sciences.
