Affiliation: Director and Professor, IIIT-Delhi

Abstract:  IIIT-Delhi (Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology Delhi) is a research-led institute created by Government of Delhi with a clear goal of becoming a globally respected academic Institution for both research and teaching in IT and allied areas. The institute has over 60 faculty members – all its regular faculty having substantial international experience and with over half having PhD from US and Europe. It has a strong focus on research – its PhD program in CS is one of the largest in the country, and ranks as one of the top in India according to CSRankings or according to publications per faculty in 2015. Being unencumbered by past, it has employed many measures like tenure system, yearly review, yearly professional grant based on performance, etc. to help it achieve its vision, making it one of the most vibrant and exciting academic environments in India and an ideal place for a young researcher who wishes to work in India and make an impact/difference.  It is currently in the midst of a major expansion, for which it is looking to recruit high quality faculty in various disciplines who can conduct research and education at international levels.  In this interaction a brief presentation will be given on the vision of the Institute, its current research areas, areas in which it plans to recruit strength, recruitment process, compensation (its compensation is among the best in the country) and other support for faculty, etc. The presentation will be followed by interaction.  (Individual meetings can also be scheduled – for that, please email Dr. Jalote – Jalote@iiitd.ac.in ).

This interaction will be particularly useful for graduating PhD students and post-doctoral fellows who may want to explore career opportunities in India. Faculty positions are open to people of all nationalities (IIIT-Delhi currently has two regular international faculty – one from Germany and one from Korea.) It may also be of interest to faculty looking for Sabbaticals, as IIIT-Delhi is also looking to host Sabbaticals for faculty who wish to spend a semester or more.
