Unscrambling Interleaved ADCs

Abstract: Interleaving offers a step-function breakthrough in A/D sample rate. It breaks an increasingly nasty power tradeoff, and it neatly sidesteps the metastability speed limit. But it comes at a price. Interleaving introduces a host of new problems that cannot be solved in the analog domain. Modern ADC design has therefore evolved into a combination of technologies which go beyond mere “digital assist” to something more like “digital life support”.  This presentation will review the challenges of interleaving and how technology is adapting to the new demands. We hope this will also serve as a glimpse into the future of the analog mixed-signal designer.

Biography: Nevena Rakuljic (S’06-M’13) received her B.S, M.S and Ph.D degrees from the University of California, San Diego in 2006, 2008 and 2012, respectively. Since 2012 she has been with Analog Devices, San Diego, CA working as a Digital Design Engineer on digital calibrations of pipelined ADCs.
