Biography
Christoph Niemann obtained the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in physics in 1998 and 2002, respectively. He spent research periods at the Max Planck Institute for Plasmaphysics from 1997 to 1998 and the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in 1999. From 1998 to 2002 he was a research scientist at the Gesellschaft fuer Schwerionenforschung (GSI) accelerator facility in Darmstadt, Germany. In 2002 he joined the Inertial Confinement Fusion Program of the National Ignition Facility (NIF) at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.

Dr. Niemann has been on the faculty of the Electrical Engineering Department and the Physics Department since 2005 and is currently an assistant professor in both departments at UCLA. He is also the UCLA/NIF professor and has a joint appointment with the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.

Research Interests
Professor Niemann’s research focuses on laser-plasma interactions, high-energy density physics, and inertial confinement fusion.
