Asst. Professor Dolecek on a Collaborative NSF Grant
Assistant
Professor Lara Dolecek is PI on a three-year
collaborative grant entitled, Spatially Coupled
Sparse Codes on Graphs - Theory, Practice, and
Extensions. The project receives over $750K in
funding from NSF to investigate a new approach to
protecting the reliability of digital communication
and digital storage systems using a novel graphical
concept called "spatial coupling". The spatial
coupling formulates the "encoding" and "decoding" of
data in terms of a novel graphical representation;
this formulation has several advantages over
existing techniques for insuring data integrity,
including better performance at very low power and
the absence of an 'error floor'. This research will
be performed in collaboration with the University of
Notre Dame, New Mexico State and San Diego State
University.
