Distinguished
Professor Yahya Rahmat-Samii was awarded the NASA Group
Achievement Award, “For exceptional contributions to the
Juno Step 1 and Step 2 exemplary winning proposal
efforts leading to the start of mission developments”.
This award was endorsed by Mr. Charles Bolden, NASA
Administrator. Professor Rahmat-Samii provided the
original design of the 5 x 5 radiometer array antenna
which was then completed at JPL. The instrument will
measure the thermal radiation emanating from deep within
Jupiter’s atmosphere.
Juno is a NASA New
Frontiers mission to planet Jupiter and was launched on
August 5, 2011 with arriving date of around July 4,
2016. The spacecraft will travel roughly over a total
distance of 2.8 billion kilometers.
