Alexis P. Bernard

Alexis Bernard was born in Brussels, Belgium, in 1973.

He received the Master Diploma in electrical engineering and B.A. in Philosophy from the Université Catholique de Louvain, Belgium, both in June 1996.
He also received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), in 1998 and 2002, respectively.

In 1994 1995, he was an Exchange Scholar at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (KUL), Belgium.  In 1996, he was also a visiting scholar at the Norwegian University of Sciences and Technology (NTNU).

He has worked as an Intern for several companies, including Alcatel Telecom in Antwerp, Belgium (1997) and Texas Instruments in Dallas, TX (1999 and 2000).

From 2002 until 2004, he joined Texas Instruments full-time as Member of Technical Staff at the DSP Solutions R&D Center. He has now joined the  start-up company Audience Inc. in the Silicon Valley, CA, where is serves a Senior Speech Recognition Engineer.

His current research interests include speech recognition source and channel coding, with focus on speech transmission and distributed speech recognition as well as information theory, communications and security/cryptography.

Dr. Bernard is a recipient of the Belgian American Educational Foundation fellowship (BAEF).
