Optical Signal Processing

Mohammad H. Asghari received his B.S. degree in electrical engineering (Electronics branch) from K.N.Toosi University of Technology (Tehran) in 2004 and his M.S. degree in Telecommunication Systems (optical communications branch) from Sharif University of Technology (Tehran) in 2006. From 2004 to 2006, he was working with Prof. Jawad A. Salehi (pioneer of optical CDMA) as a researcher in the Optical Networks Research Lab (ONRL) for his M.S. degree at Sharif University of technology. He worked in the Ultrafast Optical Processing group at the Institut National de la Recherche Scientifique, Energie, Materiaux et Telecommunications (INRS-EMT), (Montreal, Canada), for his PhD degree, working with Prof. Jose Azana (Canada Research Chair in Ultrafast Photonic Signal Processing and pioneer of innovative ultra-fast optical pulse processing techniques, including temporal self-imaging (Talbot) effects, using all-fiber grating technologies). He is currently an NSERC post-doctoral fellow in Photonics Laboratory at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) working with Prof. Bahram Jalali (pioneers of Raman lasing in silicon, Time-Stretch-ADC (the fastest analog to digital converter in the world), STEAM (the fastest practical camera in the world), and first observation of optical Rogue waves).

Dr. Asghari is a member of the Optical Society of America (OSA) and the IEEE/LEOS. He was a reviewer for OSA Student Chapter Excellence Awards in 2012. He is the reviewer of top scientific journals including Nature Photonics, Optics Letters, Optics Express, IEEE Journal of Lightwave Technology, Journal of the Optical Society of America B, IEEE Photonics Journal and Photonics Technology Letters. During his PhD, Dr. Asghari was holding an FQRNT doctoral fellowship for foreign students from the Quebec Government (Canada). He is also the recipient of the NSERC and FQRNT post-doctoral fellowships from the Government of Canada and Quebec Government, respectively.
