What's in a Name
My last name is impossible to hear and, surprisingly difficult
to spell. Strope invariably becomes Stroke, Strobe, Stroh,
Strop, and one time with Hertz rent-a-car: Ftrope. I'm still
not sure how that's pronounced, and yes, I had trouble finding
my reservation. (Phones need more bandwidth.)
Through the net, I have come into contact with a growing list of
people who share the name.
Stropes on the Net
My Dad Michael was from Malta, Montana (a small town named by a random
pin in a globe). I was born in Germany, and grew up all over. My Dad's
father was Leo Patrick, and before him were Henry Matthew, and then
Christian (Strop), with connections to the small towns of Osnebrueck,
and Essen (the small one) in Germany. Christian immigrated to the US in
1833, changed the name to Strope, and eventually settled in Ohio.
Later, the family moved to Lincoln, Nebraska.
If you're a Strope, please
send email.
I'm putting a
tree
together, and am always looking for more detail.
