Distinguished Professor Yahya Rahmat-Samii was recently featured in the San Francisco Examiner in an article examining the prospects and challenges of space-based data centers for artificial intelligence. In the interview, Rahmat-Samii discussed the significant engineering hurdles that must be overcome before orbital AI computing systems and data centers become practical, including power generation, thermal management, radiation protection, launch logistics, and large-scale satellite deployment.
