Abstract:

Topic 1) SDR-based RF Communication using Adaptive Coding and Modulation

This talk is to introduce the software defined radio (SDR) testbed we built for wireless communication system. In this work, we use adaptive coding and modulation (ACM) to enhance the communication qualities and robustness. We introduce the key components of the system including system architecture, RF front-end, back-end processing, SNR estimation, Modcod properties, and signal recover results. The ACM is one of our many emulation tools under similar structure.

Topic 2) Distributed Coherent MIMO for Advanced CDMA Channel Estimation

We proposed a distributed MIMO design. The design offers the MIMO like performance under the scenario where devices are equipped with single antenna. The key idea is to have multiple transmitters send out signals coherently; hence, multiple copies of signals arrive at receiver and combined additively. We investigated two scenario depends on the cooperation styles and provide a performance verification.

Biography:

Dr. Wenhao Xiong is a Research Scientist at Intelligent Fusion Technology, Inc., Germantown, MD.  Dr. Xiong received his BS degree from University of Electrical Science and Technology of China in 2007, MS and Ph.D. degrees from Electrical and Computer Engineering Department of Wichita State University in 2009 and 2014. Dr. Xiong’s areas of interest are MIMO communication and cooperative communication. Currently, he works on software defined radio (SDR) based testbed for wireless technologies including adaptive code and modulation (ACM), situational awareness, and communication robustness under interference.
