Emi Zeger

Emi Zeger is a PhD student in Electrical Engineering at Stanford University, and will defend her dissertation in June 2026. Her current research spans two areas: sustainable computing, where she develops power management algorithms for data centers, and learning theory, focusing on the convex analysis of neural networks. She received a best paper award at the IEEE International Conference on Communications in 2024.
Emi earned her BS and MS degrees from UCLA in 2021, completing a double major in ECE and Mathematics and an MS in ECE. She was awarded the highly competitive NSF Graduate Research Fellowship in 2021. Emi was in the Fast Track program in the ECE Department. She credits the Fast Track program with helping launch her path to graduate study, noting that it fostered a strong academic community through shared special-topics seminars and provided valuable support for pursuing a master’s degree through the Departmental Scholars Program (her area was Signals and Systems). Reflecting on her time at UCLA, she emphasizes the welcoming and supportive environment. Looking ahead, she hopes to contribute impactful research in either an industry or academic setting.
Anusha Vemuri

Anusha graduated in 2020 from UCLA.
After UCLA, she has worked in industry at NVIDIA. During the summer right before her final year at UCLA, she was offered an internship at NVIDIA, and joined this same team after graduation. She has worked in this Physical Design Methodology Engineering Team for over 5 years now. When she studied for her Masters Degree in EE at UCLA, she took the courses-based route; she studied mostly semiconductor/EM type courses.
Anusha credits the FT program for helping her with networking in industry and on campus, for allowing her to experience the ‘small campus’ feeling in a large campus, and for giving her the opportunity to make very close friends. “The dept and UCLA supported my endeavors throughout my college experience by guiding me in processes to do Bachelors and Masters in parallel, challenging me to become a better engineer with academically intriguing honors courses, and providing a wide variety of class selections to broaden my horizons in the EE field and cross-disciplinary fields,” says Anusha.
Anusha enjoys being a part of the silicon industry: it is a rapidly evolving field that allows her to learn something new everyday. She hopes to continue to work in and contribute to this exciting field.
