Professor Subramanian S. Iyer, Distinguished Professor and Director of UCLA CHIPS, participated as an invited panelist in two sessions at the 63rd Design Automation Conference (DAC 2026), held July 26-29 in Long Beach, California. On July 28, he joined the technical-program panel “Who Holds the Upper Hand: Electrical or Photonic Links in Scaled-out Chiplet Systems?” examining whether future scaled-out chiplet systems will increasingly depend on photonic links or continue to rely on advanced electrical interconnects. On July 29, he participated in Synopsys’ Exhibitor Forum panel “When Physics Becomes the Bottleneck: Rethinking Chip Design for Next-Gen Systems,” focused on multiphysics challenges including power delivery, thermal effects, signal integrity, electromagnetics, heterogeneous integration and co-packaged optics in next-generation AI and high-performance computing systems.
