Biography
Stephen E. Jacobsen received the M.S. and Ph.D. in engineering science at the University of California, Berkeley, in 1965 and 1968, respectively. He has been on the faculty of the School of Engineering since 1969. He served as Associate Dean of Academic and Student Affairs in the School of Engineering and Applied Science until 2007, and is a Professor of Electrical Engineering. He served on several campus-wide administrative committees as HSSEAS' representative and interface to other campus units, including the Academic Senate committee that deals with undergraduate admissions policies and processes. Prof. Jacobsen is a member of the Operations Research Society of America and the Mathematical Programming Society.

Research Interests
Professor Jacobsen's primary teaching and research activities are in the area of mathematical programming with emphasis on non-convex and NP-hard problems and the application of the latter to engineering and engineering/economic systems. Current research focuses on non-convex mathematical programming: concave minimization and reverse convex programming.
