HKN at UCLA Providing Tutoring, Workshops, and Networking Opportunities to Students

Eta Kappa Nu (HKN), the electrical and computer engineering honor society of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), is providing tutoring, workshops, networking opportunities, and additional resources to students in the Electrical and Computer Engineering department.

HKN offers students opportunities to meet professionals from a variety of careers, improve personal and academic skills, and connect with other students.

Cody Fan, the UCLA HKN Internal Vice President, provided the following information about HKN’s services: “As we transitioned into remote learning, we were at first unsure of how to proceed with our usual services of tutoring, workshops, and providing professional talks and networking opportunities to the UCLA ECE student body. However, one of our officers suggested that we use Discord to host tutoring services, and this allowed us to seamlessly transition our tutoring services to a virtual space. We also transitioned to hosting our review sessions virtually, and they have been uploaded to our YouTube channel so that students that are unable to attend due to being in a different time zone can still benefit from the service. Additionally, we hosted a couple town halls in conjunction with IEEE and WATT, two other ECE student organizations on campus, and came up with improvements and solutions to problems with virtual learning. In addition, we hosted many wonderful professional talks, ranging from our very own esteemed professors such as Professor Rahmat-Samii, and Professor Aiello, as well as those external to UCLA such as JPL Engineer Ashley Madni. Also, we were able to host networking opportunities and professional events for our students such as a career fair, talks with representatives from QSC and Physical Optics Corporation, and a graduate school panel for students to learn more about different graduate school options and how to apply. Finally, we celebrate the accomplishment of being named an Outstanding HKN Chapter for the year of 2019-2020.”
