Abstract:  Super-resolution (SR) is an innovative field that deals with approaches of overcoming the classical resolution limits of imaging systems. The resolution of an optical system is characterized by the finest detail that can be detected by that system. Classically, optical systems are considered to have a fundamental resolution limit due to diffraction.  The diffraction limit depends on the aperture of the imaging lens, its focal length and the wavelength. As a result of diffraction, spatial frequencies in the image are effectively cut off beyond the resolution limit.

This talk introduces several approaches to achieve super resolved imaging through applying different SR approaches based on multiplexing process such as time and wavelength. The field of SR aims to supply approaches for exceeding the spatial resolving limit existing in a given imaging system and to allow detection of details beyond the classical diffraction limit. SR is achieved by using a priori information about the input signal. This a priori knowledge is used to enlarge the synthetic limitations of the system such as the aperture of the imaging system or the geometry of its detectors. The spatial improvement obtained using SR techniques is obtained by coding the spatial information of the object and its conversion to other domains as time, wavelength and polarization such that it may be spatially low passed by the imaging system and yet be decoded and reconstructed right after in the image plane.
