Light: Science & Applications – Serving Optics & Photonics Community

Speaker: Dr. Prof. Yuhong Bai
Affiliation: Light: Science & Applications, CIOMP, CAS

Abstract:  Launched in March 2012, Light: Science & Applications (LSA) is an open access fully peer-reviewed international journal, co-published by Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics (CIOMP), Chinese Academy of Sciences and Springer Nature. LSA publishes high quality optics and photonics research from around the world, which covers fundamental research as well as the important issues in engineering and applied sciences in optics and photonics.

Deputy Editor-in-Chief Dr. Prof. Yuhong Bai will give a brief history of Light and the editorial process as long as the challenge of interdisciplinary and applied science. At last will share a little bit life as a professional editor.

Biography:  Prof. Bai was born in Changchun, China. She received a BSc degree in electronic engineering from Jilin University, a MSc degree in optical engineering from Chinese Academy of Sciences and a PhD in management science and engineering from Dalian University of Technology.  She joined the Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics (CIOMP), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), as an assistant professor in 1986 and was appointed full professor in 2005.  She is the Director of Light Publishing Center of CIOMP and a deputy editor-in-chief of journal Light: Science & Applications published by Nature.

Through the tireless efforts by Prof. Bai and other editorial board members, the journal of Light: Science & Applications rapidly reached a milestone as one of the most visible journals in the field of Physics and Optics within a short period after its launch. Currently, the journal ranks as No. 3 in terms of impact factor (13.6) among all the journals in Optics, only behind its sister journal, Nature Photonics.  Prof. Bai has played a pivotal role in the journal’s development by helping with scientific reviews, improving journal guidelines and policy, and providing outreach activities. Each year, Prof. Bai serve as the General Secretary for the Light Conference, which is the Annual Meeting associated with the journal of Light and one of the most exciting events in the field of Optics. In the past, Prof. Bai has also played a very active role serving the scientific community.
