Abstract:  The Nuts and Bolts of Academic Job Search” outlines an effective 
search strategy and discusses important elements of the faculty application 
process.  It covers topics including finding opportunities of interest, preparing
a strong application, the role of your advisors, interviewing, negotiating, 
and how the increasingly competitive job market is changing the faculty search

Ali Khademhosseini is the Levi Knight Professor of Bioengineering, Chemical 
Engineering and Radiology and the Founding Director of the Center for Minimally 
Invasive Therapeutics at University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA). He joined 
UCLA in Nov. 2017 from Harvard University where he was Professor of Medicine at
 Harvard Medical School (HMS), and a faculty at Harvard-MIT HST and the Wyss 
Institute. His large and interdisciplinary group is interested in developing 
‘personalized’ solutions that utilize micro- and nanoscale technologies to 
enable a range of therapies for organ failure, cardiovascular disease and 
cancer. He has authored >550 journal papers and 60 books/chapters. He is 
cited >44,000 citations and H-index >109. Dr. Khademhosseini’s interdisciplinary
research has been recognized by over 50 major national and international awards.
He is also a recipient of the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists 
and Engineers. He is an elected member of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, 
and a fellow of various organizations including AIMBE, MRS, BMES, RSC, FBSE, 
AAAS. Currently he serves on the editorial board of numerous leading journals 
as well as an Associate Editor for ACS Nano (IF: 13.3). He received his Ph.D. 
in bioengineering from MIT (2005), and MASc (2001) and BASc (1999) degrees 
from University of Toronto both in chemical engineering.
