2018-2019 Broadcom Foundation Fellowship

Submission Deadline: Monday, April 23rd at 11:59 pm

UCLA Electrical & Computer Engineering is pleased to announce the Call for Proposal for Fellowships offered by Broadcom Foundation. The deadline to submit is Monday, April 23rd at 11:59 pm. Fellowship recipients will be announced in May 2018.

The Selection Committee invites Ph.D. students who have passed the Preliminary Exam within the past two years to submit proposals in the areas described below. The committee especially encourages students that are in the early stage of their well-defined research topic.

The selection process will be as follows: a committee of ECE faculty will review and identify finalists from the submissions, based on technical merit and likelihood of success. Fellowship recipients will receive $25,000 tuition support for one academic year. The research will be carried out in the ECE Department at UCLA.

Proposal Guidelines

Each proposal shall not exceed five single-space pages (excluding the cover page) in 12 pt font, including all figures, tables, and charts. It should contain the following sections:

1) A clear description of the problems to be solved, or the system-on-a-chip.
2) A brief summary, with references, of the current state-of-the-art related to the proposed research topic.
3) A description of what is new about the proposed approach, and how it will advance the state-of-the-art.
4) The scope and milestones of the proposed method of attack, and the possible risks of failure.
5) If applicable, how the research takes advantage of, or is enabled by, a realization in an advanced CMOS process.

Include a cover page with the title of the project, your name, student ID number and advisor’s name. Please include the title within the proposal but without your name or ID.

Description of Broadcom Foundation Fellowship 2018-2019

Broadcom Foundation, a non-profit charitable organization, is continuing to support UCLA Electrical Engineering with the Broadcom Foundation Fellowships. The research may relate to, but is not restricted to, novel design of integrated circuits, novel device structures, methods to enhance IC functionality such as on-chip antennas or other structures compatible with foundry CMOS, and the exploration of advanced VLSI for emerging applications. Qualified students are encouraged to prepare and submit proposals in close consultation with their research advisors.
Past and current recipients of the Broadcom Fellowship may submit a proposal for continuing their work that highlights the completed effort or progress expected of the current year and the outcomes expected in the next year.
