An Optimization Framework for Two-tier Cellular Network Resource Allocation and Handover

Abstract:  The Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing Access (OFDMA) and macro-femto two-tier heterogeneous network are the core technologies used in 4G and 5G cellular networks. These pose new challenges and optimization potential for network resource allocation with consideration of fairness as well as for user equipment (UE) handoff with consideration of resource allocation. This thesis studies both problems and analyses the inherent difficulties in the problem domain. Then several optimization algorithms are proposed to solve the problem. An optimization framework is proposed to integrate the algorithms together.

Biography:  Wuwen Li received his M.S. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from UCLA in 2011 and a B.S. degree in Computer Science from The Center University of Nationalities, Beijing, China in 1997.

He joined Founder Information System Corporation, China as a software engineer from 1997-1998. Afterwards he worked at Hitachi Semiconductor America, China Design Center.  He joined Nokia Finland from 1999 to 2001 as a DSP firmware engineer. He transferred to Nokia San Diego as DSP firmware engineer from 2001 to 2006.  Later in 2006, he joined Broadcom San Diego as a Senior Staff Engineer, working on Bluetooth System Design. After he obtained his Masters in Electrical Engineering, he continued working at VTI Instrument Inc. from 2012 to 2014 as a Principal Engineer.  He then joined Qualcomm Inc. as a RFSW engineer from 2014 to 2016.  He is a Founder and CTO of Tanteq Co. in ShenZhen, China.
