ECE PhD Student’s Research Recognized in IEEE Lance Stafford Larson Best Student Paper Competition

Swapnil Sayan Saha, an ECE PhD student advised by Prof. Dr. Mani Srivastava, has been awarded the IEEE Lance Stafford Larson Best Student Paper Award (2nd Runner-Up) for graduate students for the paper titled “Deep Convolutional Bidirectional LSTM for Complex Activity Recognition with Missing Data”. The annual award is presented by IEEE Computer Society for the best student paper, concerning computer-related subjects and presented at a computer-related conference or publication. The award encourages students to develop excellence in their communication skills and achievement in the field of computer science. The paper was published in the Springer Smart Innovation, Systems and Technologies book series (SIST, volume 199) as a chapter in the book “Human Activity Recognition Challenge” and also won 3rd place in the 2020 ABC Cooking Activity Recognition Challenge.
