UCLA EE’s Team Parvail wins first place in UCLA Code for the Mission Mobile App Development Competition
A team of researchers and graduate students from Prof. Frank Chang’s High-Speed Electronics Lab won the 2015 Code for the Mission “Research: Promoting a Culture of Sustainability Track.” The team built the Parvail app, a wireless smart parking guidance system to improve parking efficiency at UCLA and beyond.
At the hardware level, an ultrasonic sensor, designed to be non-intrusive and easy to install, triggers a wireless device to send signals to a coordinator. The status of each parking structure is updated on the server in real-time. Users of the app will see a map with available parking spots and the type of permit allowed, allowing them to plan accordingly before they leave for their destination.
